01 / FIELD NOTES

Let one village anchor the weekend

Seahouses works differently from Beadnell: decide whether your priority is the harbour, a beach walk or a quieter village evening. Use one base and leave space between outings. Room orientation matters too; a property close to the coast can still have rooms without a sea view.

02 / FIELD NOTES

Treat boat trips as weather-dependent

Make your accommodation useful even if a sailing changes or is cancelled. Check the actual operator's arrangements, sailing status and cancellation terms rather than treating a planned boat trip as a guaranteed part of the hotel stay. Keep a shore-based alternative and avoid making a narrow connection your only route home.

Holy Island requires its own check

The causeway to Holy Island is tidal. Consult Northumberland County Council's current safe-crossing times for the exact day, read the instructions and allow a margin. Do not infer safe access from a navigation app or a low-tide time. Our links point to the official crossing information; we do not reproduce a timetable that can go stale.

04 / FIELD NOTES

Have a useful wet-weather plan

Keep a shorter walk and an indoor option in reserve, and check opening hours directly. Drying wet clothing, meal availability and a comfortable shared space can matter more than an extra amenity in a listing. Choose a hotel, inn or lodge that still suits the group if the day outdoors becomes shorter than expected.
