Northumbrian Holidays / PRACTICAL GUIDE

The coast: choosing your base

Choose a village base for the harbour, dunes and places to eat. A coastal address does not guarantee a sea-facing room.

Seahouses or Beadnell?

Start with the evenings. Seahouses places the harbour and boat-trip planning at the centre of the visit; Beadnell suits a bay-led stay. Choose the setting you will use repeatedly, then arrange individual outings. A village hotel can simplify dinner, but check the actual restaurant schedule.

02 / FIELD NOTES

Choose the room as well as the property

A coastal hotel does not give every room a sea view. Compare the actual category, stair access and bedroom setup. At Beach House Hotel, the described club facilities are nearby rather than an on-site spa. At the Bamburgh Castle Inn, the address is Seahouses, not Bamburgh village.

03 / FIELD NOTES

Keep the weather in the plan

Avoid treating a sailing or a long beach day as a fixed inclusion. Read the operator's current arrangements and retain a shorter outing. For Holy Island, use the council's day-specific safe-crossing information; the hotel location does not tell you when the causeway is safe.
